The Impact of Star Formation on Cool Core Galaxy Clusters

چکیده
We present results from recent simulations of the formation and evolution of clusters of galaxies in a ΛCDM cosmology. These simulations contain our most physically complete input physics to date including radiative cooling, star formation that transforms rapidly cooling material into aggregate star particles and we also model the thermal feedback from resulting supernovae in the star particles. We use an adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) Eulerian hydrodynamics scheme to obtain very high spatial resolution (≈ 2 kpc) in a computational volume 256 Mpc on a side with mass resolution for dark matter and star particles of ≈ 10 M . We examine in detail the appearance and evolution of the core region of our simulated clusters.

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملMid - Infrared Spectra of Cool - Core Galaxy Clusters
We have obtained mid-infrared spectra of nine cool-core galaxy clusters with the Infrared Spectrograph aboard the Spitzer Space Telescope. X-ray, ultraviolet and optical observations have demonstrated that each of these clusters hosts a cooling flow which seems to be fueling vigorous star formation in the brightest cluster galaxy. Our goal is to use the advantages of the mid-infrared band to im...
متن کاملOn the Formation of Cool, Non-Flowing Cores in Galaxy Clusters via Hierarchical Mergers
We present a new model for the creation of cool cores in rich galaxy clusters within a ΛCDM cosmological framework using the results from high spatial dynamic range, adaptive mesh hydro/N-body simulations. It is proposed that cores of cool gas first form in subclusters and these subclusters merge to create rich clusters with cool, central X-Ray excesses. The rich cool clusters do not possess “c...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملAn Entropy Threshold for Strong Hα and Radio Emission in the Cores of Galaxy Clusters
Our Chandra X-ray Observatory archival study of intracluster entropy in a sample of 222 galaxy clusters shows that Hα and radio emission from the brightest cluster galaxy are much more pronounced when the cluster’s core gas entropy is . 30 keV cm2. The prevalence of Hα emission below this threshold indicates that it marks a dichotomy between clusters that can harbor multiphase gas and star form...
